WELCOME TO CAROLINA DOG FANCIERS

Posted on July 27, 2017 by DBB

We are happy to announce that the American Kennel Club (AKC) has accepted the Carolina Dog as a Foundation Service Breed (FSS).

What does this mean?

Well, it means that Carolina Dogs with known or approved parentage will begin being listed with their registry.  It means that dogs in their registry will be allowed to compete in Open shows in Conformation.  Altered Carolina Dogs will be listed with a Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL).  Others with undetermined or unconfirmed genetics may be listed with an Indefinite Listing Privilege (ILP).

This is the first step in becoming a fully recognized breed by the AKC.

The breed’s founder, Dr. I.Lehr Brisbin has found it necessary to organize breeders and owners via the American Kennel Club of the United States, to maintain the integrity of the breed and to help people discern fact from fiction. The ability to connect electronically has revealed quite a lot of new information about these dogs and has spurred those in the scientific community towards additional research. This organization will endeavor to keep its members and the public informed of the results of any new scientific conclusions about their breed.

Carolina Dog Fanciers of America became the “Parent Club” for Carolina Dog in the American Kennel Club in April 2022.
